Release 1.20 Notes:
The changes in this version and the last are that this version is SHAREWARE,
which means that if you continue using this program for more than 21 days
then I wish you would please send $5.00 to register it. When you register
the program you will be informed of any new versions of this program as soon
as they are available. If you do use this program and do register then I
would like for you to send me any suggestions on how to improve all future
versions of this program. Since the previous versions were not Shareware,
you might be wondering why I am making this one so, and the reason is easily
shown when you look at my phone bill for calling long distance BBS's since
I live in a very small town and need to get the latest information about VB.
So please don't think that I am just wanting money, I only want it so that
I can make more great programs that you can use. Thanks for understanding!!!
The main change in the program is that I have fixed it so that you can now
move around your directories by double-clicking on the one you want to go
to when you are in the file list form. So if you want to look around your
drive C: then you would just type C:\ in the input box where you normally
would type the filename of a program to search for or something. I put this
feature in after the Sysop of a Windows BBS suggested it, his name is Firas
Bushnaq and the BBS is WinSig BBS, their number is listed at the end of this
file along with the BBS you can contact me on. Another tiny thing that was
pointed out by Firas is that the first version looked very silly in any
resolution besides 640X480, so I corrected everything and this version and
version 1.10 work perfect in any resolution.
Thank you for taking time to read this documentation, the program is mostly
self-explanatory but it helps to read this file to make sure you understand
all the commands and features of the program. The program WinDir was first
thought of by my friend Kenny Napier who got sick of having to shell out to
DOS or run some long program just to get a quick directory of path to see
if the file he needs is there, so he told me to make a program that allows
you to quickly enter the drive and pathname and then a list of the files in
that directory will be shown to you. I know this seems like a silly thing
to some of you but after he recommended that, I realized that I have been
doing the same thing just to get a quick listing of files in a directory.
So I just took a few minutes to think about what the program should do and
how it should do it and then drawed the interface and started programming.
The program is so simple that the drawing of the dialog boxes took more
time than writing the code for them to use. This version allows you to do
many different things, Find a file, Check free disk space, and get a DIR
of any drive or path. Well now I will tell you how to use the program,
first put the file into the group it belongs in the Program Manager and
then just run it. Second you will then see a small command button in the
lower-right side of your screen, this button will be there until you either
unload this program or exit windows. Now to get the directory of your drive,
you just click the little command button anytime and a small dialog box
will appear in the center of your screen which will allow you to enter the
full pathname of the directory to display, you can include the drive letter
also, example C:\DOS. Then after you have typed the name you can hit [ENTER]
or click on OK and a large window will appear displaying all the files in
the directory, after you are through looking at the files just click the
button at the bottom and the form will disappear. While you are on the menu
to enter the pathname you can hit [ESC] to cancel the operations or click
on the About button for information on the program. There are two more neat
little functions I just added for the heck of it, the ability to search the
path you set in your autoexec.bat file for the file you specify, the other
the ability to see how much free space you have on a drive. To search for a
file, just enter the filename of the file to search for, then click on the
button Find File and the program will search the current drive for the file
you specified, if it finds the file it will tell you exactly where to find
it at and what its attributes are, if it does not find the file it tells
you also. To check how much free space you have on a drive you just enter
the letter of the drive that you want checked and click on Free Space and
then you will be shown how much space you have and how much space that you
have left in Kilobytes. Remember that you only have to enter the letter of
the drive you want to check, you don't have to enter C:\ to get the free
space on drive C. From the About menu you can click either the OK button
or the button that is labeled Remove WinDir, OK will take you back to the
input form and clicking Remove WinDir will remove the whole program from
memory. There is no other way of removing WinDir except through the Task
Manager. If you find using the keyboard easier or faster than clicking with
a mouse then to select a command you either use the [TAB] button to switch
between the buttons or hold [ALT] and hit the letter on the command button
that is underlined. The best way to use this program is to modify the Run=
command in WIN.INI to load in this program at startup so its always there
when needed. I hope you enjoy this program, for I have found it to be very
useful at times myself. If you have any suggestions, comments or DONATIONS
then please send them to me at the following address, or if you wish to
send just comments or suggestions you can leave me a message on CYBORG Inc.
BBS at the number listed below my address. Thank you, Sean Bishop
